Logic Pro App Reviews

Terrible Performance

This update ruined Logic. The interface looks great, but the performance is not. My computer is quite powerful (4 core i7, SSD, 16 GB ram) but I cannot play back audio and change parameters at the same time. (For example, turning down the master volume during playback causes the audio to pop and click, and the spinning rainbow wheel of death to appear). If you decide to upgrade, do yourself a favor and BACK UP THE OLD VERSION OF LOGIC FIRST.

Fantastic New Features And A Ugly Broken Update 10.3

I want to start by saying. I’ve 100% loved Logic Pro X since its release 2013, its my favorite audio editing app and I use it weekly for podcasting and audio editing. Its terrific. Runs great on my old but tricked out 2011 MBP. Top notch really. But this update…. I played the new features, love the Alchemy stuff and the color coding good stuff. BUT HERES THE BIG BUT: It 100% broke ALL MY TEMPLATES, they couldn’t find their missing files and even when located they where greyed out. Unusable terrible bug really you should get on that Apple. I personally absolutely LOVED the 2016 LPX UI it was beatiful and easy on the eyes. This new 2017 version seems like someone intentionally made all the text jagged, replaced all the icons I was acostomed too and then turned the CONTRAST way way way up. I’ve spoken to may LPX users on Reddit and it seems pretty split on the new UI colors its either a love or hate thing. I personally hate it. It literally hurts my eyes. And I don’t want to have to futz with the monitor settings just to get it back to usability. The consesus online is that its great is you do your editing during the day and in the sun. Terrible if, like me, you use it during evening hours. I literally tried to edit a podcast on it last week and my eyes couldn’t take it. For now. I see no good reason to upgrade to 2017’s version 10.3. I’ve already used Time Machine to take me back to LPX 10.2.4 and I will be sticking with that untill such time as Apple Developers gives me the option to at the very least CHANGE the look back to a much more darker theme. Its unfortunate I hit the crushing template killer bug and that the UI is so ugly to me. (Looks like the old Logic 9 UI which was terrible) As a long time user I can’t recoomend this version update. If your a new user unaccustomed to how it looked before you may very well do just fine. In my research, it also seems most people like me complaining about it are on older Macs, and the new Retina Macs make this new verison look good. So I beg you Apple. I love this program to death. Please give us older Mac users our Dark beautiful theme back, heck make it a option! Like a Light mode and a Dark mode yes please!? And fix the really wonky jagged text issue on older machines please and thank you. Still love the app. Just not this version.

Wish I could get an earlier version...

Only buying this for a class I’m taking that uses Logic. Wish I could have bought an earlier version before 10.3 came out. Interface looks like trash. Too geared towards beginners and kids. Too much like Garage Band. Apple, why do you do this?

35 Years of Professional full time Audio Advice

Used Most All known Audio Daws, & each has it’s ability to help create. A true artist can use anything & make something great on it. We went over to Logic Pro about 5 years ago, & for us, we never looked back. Granted, ( Apple Hardware & Software together), we believe still, are the forrunners in understanding an Audio/Video Daw Creative experience. The look changes can cause some people to be challenged, but when spending numerous hour within itself, is why we never looked back. It also is why we went completly proprietary with Apple & our Video Post Production Facility area as well with FCP & Motion. We’ve used others hardware & software in this field as well. There are just to many good things to share about with the benifits of staying with Apple Hardware & Software. They do care also, and are regularly as regular requires, updating to make their products, our products tweaked to even a greater perfection. I usually do not put out reviews because of being in a computer most all day and night long, but was looking at some apps and this came up and thought to go and take a gander at our Favorate 5 year Now,, Only Daw & see what others are saying. It is Sunday for us & a day off to move in something less common than our regular attivity. Thanks for reading.

My Favorite App of All Time

I’m sort of disappointed that you guys would change the whole interface but not change the look of the outdated plugins. I actually welcome the new look. Either way, I notice the sound quality is different and I like it a lot. I cant wait to take advantage of the new features as well. I also notice basic features like dragging and dropping and sometimes dragging loops that I made around the project a bit buggy at times. Overall, I enjoy Logic Pro X, it’s new features and etc., and so far it is my only and favorite program for producing music. Feature Request: - Continued addition of quality sound presets to Alchemy - UI update to all the outdated looking plugins (especially Ultrabeat Drum Sampler) - ID3 tagging on .Wav or .AIFF files on bounce - Make 808 Bass Bending easier! - continue to improve quality of adaptive limiter and other stock mixing / mastering plugins Like I said in my last review and the review before that, magnificent app and thanks again for all the work you put into it. I mean it!

NEW UPDATE LAG (UNUSABLE)

I don’t know why. I could run the previous version like a dream but this just lags to a poitn where it is unusable and I’m extremely frustrated with Apple. What’s the point of the update if it doesn’t even work. I have an early 2015 Macbook Pro… Thats not even very old at all especially for an Apple computer… Please fix this Apple!!

Custom GUI Color

i feel that we should be given the option of adjusting the color and or contrast of the GUI from light to dark. a lighter color might be to rough on the eyes if you are putting in hours of work. waiting on 09 Mac Pro Update as well

Midi velocities reversed!!

My upgrade took place Sunday night and Monday morning I was embarrassed to find that my drum parts that were recorded using the So Cal drum kit, were playing the soft notes at full volume and the loud ones softly. Clicking on the individual notes in the edit window confirmed it… a kick drum with a velocity of 66 was audibly louder than the kick next to it that had a velocity of 100. I changed kits and had the same result. Assigning the track to Sample Tank corrected the issue, which told me that the issue is with the LPX Drum Kits. Playing the tracks using the EXS24 sampler also avoided the problem. Having said all that, I LOVE LOGIC!!! I have ProTools, Cubase, Reason, and Ableton and actually use them from time to time, but Logic is ALWAYS my first choice DAW and would normally get 5 stars from me. My three star review reflects my chagrin at having to explain to my clients at a live rehearsal yesterday why my drum parts (which sounded fine Saturday and Sunday) suddenly sounded like they were done by a five -year-old….

Not Updating

THis update won’t work on my computer

Logic Pro X

Logic is the truth. I’m so in love with this DAW. I’m very content with my switch from FL Studio to Logic.

Love the update!!

This new update for 10.3 is great! Had to adjust to the new look, but as far as features, its’ really handy! Finally have clip based effects, much similar to audiosuite in Pro Tools. Hands down, Logic is my favorite production tool for all my needs. Thanks Apple!

Almost Great. One BIG Issue

Loving the new clean GUI! This new update is a great treat for long time users. I feel great using Logic again. That aside, ive experienced a new issue. When playing my track and scrolling, the audio starts crackling and cutting. Im running a Late 2015 Maxed out iMac, so CPU perfromance is not the issue here. Please fix this Apple!

My go to DAW

(10.3 update) There are a couple welcome new features in Logic, thank you. I would give those features up to have the 10.2 GUI interface back. Much more pleasing on the eyes and looks more expensive then this flat eyestrain that is 10.3 (old)Have made the runs with Reason, Record, Ableton, FL Studio and am currently using and have been for over 3 years now Pro Tools and Logic. Logic is my favorite DAW to work in for all of my producing tasks, even mixing, mastering and tracking. I love the takes editing feature after tracking in a new instrument or vocalist. There are many things about this software that truly make it an amazing product for the price but that is a discussion for another time. I will say the one issue I am having with Logic X is that it is an Apple product just as OS X Yosemite is but the application did not recieve any updates in such a long time that especially after the release of Yosemite I found that the application gives me “Logic quite unexpectedly” error many more times than I would deem appropriate. Most of the application quiting is happening while it is performing very light loads and in no way is my (1tb SSD, 2.66 12 core, 32gb ram Mac Pro) system not keeping up with the application. I make my living with my music and would appreciate it if Apple spent the time to release an update to fix this issue. Logic on OSX Mountain Lion was rock solid

Please go back to the previous design

This new design for the program looks terrible and out of date. I really liked the darker design much more.

Logic Pro X 10.3 Update?

Ok so I am and have been a loyal card carrying menber of the elitist Apple only products in my home and office since 1990.Anyone who uses a pc is a looser and I have taught my 13 year old son who btw is a computer wiz that is already designing apps on his own that pc stands for “poor choice” Yep and I will stand by that statement till Steve Jobs comes home (fingers crossed) god we could talk over the great decision of “El Capiton” and some other none Steve Job aproved decisions Im sure that have been made in his absence. Notice how theres a pattern of these decisions since his death that any lifelong user of the Apple products will tell you in private that something doesn’t smell right about a few things post Steves departure.I feel I’m not alone in this feeling as well.Ok soApple had the money and the vision to buy Camel Audio lock, stock and barrel giving us the incredible Alchemy to now rival some of the other more premier audio plugins on the market. I own and operate a record label & website DNB◉UNITED RECORDS & DNB◉UNITED.COM. We have a primary focus on the genre of drum+bass music both within the U.S. One of the things I do is interview each artist that sends us their release for critical review prior to the publics right to purchase it. One question that comes up almost every interview I conduct with eithher a resident of the us or uk is when Apple is going to release the famous Camel plugin know as “Camel Phat” This legendary plugin is designed o create a very specific bass sound that some of the very biggest artists of the genre swear by this plugin. Owners of the plugin before Aplles aquasition are taking the pruchase licence to online sites like eBay & Amazon and our selling it to the highest bidder. I mean if Apple know owns it with out right why not allow long time users and supporters like myself and others like me hace access to all Camel has to ofer. Since it did not apear with the update as we all hoped Im left going to Natve Instruments and by the Komplete line for 1800.000 Lastly I would like a choice of skins to use for Logic. A skin for night and one for when performing live that aids in the visibility of all the controls, I might enjoy a neon skin for live performances.Jason Bakes DNB◉UNITED RECORDS DNB◉UNITED.COM

FAIL Apple!!! UPDATED again!!!

Requires OS update (which is likely Apple policy, and not a hard requirement). For musicians with many devices and drivers in a studio, this can be a disaster. LAME!!! >>>> PREVIOUS REVIEWS >>>>>> I am a musician with a 64 channel digital recording studio (lots of pro gear). Id used Cubase, Pro Tools, Nuendo, Ableton Live, and FL Studio. They all have some strong points, but this new version of Logic Pro X is in a different class altogether. The number of industry leading technologies in this product can replace thousands of dollars worth of external gear and apps. In the world of pro audio, there are very few great, or even good things that you can buy for $200. With Logic Pro X, you’ll get just about every tool needed to make a great sounding song. The only con for me is that controlling Logic Pro X with a Mackie Control surface, and the iPad remote at the same time makes Logic Pro X crash, but I can live with that, ..AND NOW THEY’VE FIXED THAT TOO!!! It would be great to be able to easily bookmark favorite sounds, since they’re so many, but this app is as good as it gets. Kudos to the team!!!

Love this!

I’ve been loving this update since its release. I just use it for backing tracks for guitar playing, so I don’t push the limits of it like most seem to. I love the new look as it feels much less cluttered. I feel it is aimed for more touch integration in the future. In conjunction with the new garageband release for iOS, this has been a very fun combo for me.

Logic Pro X 10.3

Overall, I really like the update. But what I really like is the seemingly greatly improved audio quality. Perhaps it’s the 64bit summing? I noticed a big difference. I’m preparing a mix that is nearly ready for release so it’s pretty spot on the way I like it. After the update, I gave it a complete listen and was blown away by the improvements. Time will tell and I haven’t bounced the track yet so I can compare to previous, but I like what I hear now. I like the user interface as well, and the new tools are excellent; more intuitive.

SUPER...
